I've arrived in Amsterdam. My flight left Detriot at 4pm local time and arrived here at 5am local time. I slept for about an hour on the plane. I have a feeling that even though I'm not really feeling it right now, the jet lag is going to kick my ass at the end of the day in Edinburgh.
I watched 3 very good movies on the plane. Paul, Bridesmaids and Midnight in Paris. I met this nice man who sat next to me on the plane and he started watching that movie when we took off. I had always wanted to see it and now I actually had a chance. Good movie. Lots of Sci Fi references. I also really enjoyed Bridesmaids. The lead actress was hilarious. Plus, it had Roy from the IT Crowd in it, so that was pretty awesome. Midnight in Paris is a Woody Allen movie about a man who travels back in time whenever the clock strikes midnight. It was really funny but it was also very good.
The last two movies had some positive messages. Bridesmaids was that you should just roll with what life gives you. She was having a hard time in life when she's told by a very funny Melissa McCarthy that she should stop blaming the world for her problems and go fix them. Midnight in Paris's message was that you shouldn't be nostalgic too much. It's a form of denial, a denial of the present. While the present is often hard, you can make it through. Just one day at a time. Be happy where you are, because you can't go anywhere else.
A fitting start to my trip. Enjoy while you're here. It won't be forever.
